Responses to Clinics and Training with Terry Myers

The word’s out: What students are saying about training with Terry:

While I attended Ohio Wesleyan University, Terry was my "dad away from home.” He is an incredibly gifted horseman. By just seeing a person walk into his barn, he can assess his/her riding ability. Terry knew—before his students did—what we could do, and what practice we needed. I quickly learned to trust him. I knew that if he said I could do something, he was right. Even if I had never tried it before, I would try Terry's instructions, and succeed.

I just wanted to let you know Terry is the most honest horseman I know. We appreciate his input about our horses. We've felt very good about leaving our horses in his care.
—Michael Smith

Terry has a smart plan about how to instruct your horse to move around obstacles. If I lived near him, I'd seek his help regularly! When I finally have a chance to set up a trail course at the barn where I board my horse, I will definitely put into practice some of the advice I learned.

Terry is kind, patient, articulate, knowledgeable and fun. The kids learn from him because they enjoy his method of teaching. I'm seriously interested in Terry as a clinician for our county.

My favorite part of the clinics? My daughter, Britt, knocked over the gate at the end of a clinic she participated in at Equine Affaire. Terry worked with her individually until she had calmed down, then invited her to ride with him the next morning. She learned more in 20 minutes by his side than in many lessons at home.

Britt and EZ are now successfully performing the 360 box and back throughs and are learning the gate. They've placed in every trail class this year. Their goal is to qualify for state in trail next year.

Terry is one of the best clinicians I've seen. Britt learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed herself. We'd like to hire Terry for our county clinic. Britt learned so much--as did my family. My mother said even she could guide Britt in how to sidepass!

At an Equine Affaire clinic, Terry stuck up for me when an audience member suggested my equitation was incorrect. It made me feel confident in my skills as an equitation rider.

Plus, I had a lot of fun. I think kids learn more if they are having fun as they work. Terry explains things so riders can understand easily. I show in 4-H, so I will constantly use the skills I learned from Terry.

I’d like to know when Terry has other clinics—I’m ready to go again.
