Topic
Ride In Sync I: Basic Body Positioning
The favorite to describe the horse and rider philophy of
Ride In Sync. This clinic is an invitation and introduction.
Participants will begin to notice the effects of rider body
positioning on horse movement and performance. Riders will
begin by warming up with other clinic participants. Then
Myers will help each individual to notice their riding position
and practice exercises which will improve balance and horse
performance. Participants will gain insights while riding,
and by observing others riding positions. The principles
taught apply to all riding disciplines: dressage, English
(hunters), saddle seat, Western (stock seat), etc.
Materials Needed: Riding arena, 5-6 beginning or amateur
riders with dependable mounts who may need fine tuning (this
is not a horse training clinic). Two cordless mikes. 4 orange
cones.
1 to 1.5 hours.
Ride In Sync II: Refining Movement
Participants will refine skills and exercises learned in
Basic Body Positioning. This clinic may include pattern work
to build experience with transitions. Myers will explain
and demonstrate more advanced techniques experienced riders
can practice to refine their riding and top the judges' lists.
Materials Needed: Arena, 5-6 experienced and advanced riders
of any discipline. Two cordless mikes. 4 orange cones.
1 to 1.5 hours.
Ride In Sync III: Trail Obstacles
Participants will implement the Ride-in-Sync exercises while
practicing trail obstacles matched to their experience (trot
poles, box, lope poles, serpentine, sidepasses, gate, back
throughs, dog leg, etc.). This is Myers' specialty--his horses
are known for their trail training and patience.
Materials Needed: Arena, Trail accessories (gate, 10-12
poles, bridge, cones). Two cordless mikes. 5-6 riders of
varied riding experience (2 beginners, 2 intermediate, 2
experienced show people).
1 to 1.5 hours.
In Sync Showmanship
Participants will understand how their body positioneven
while on the groundcan affect their horses appearance
and showmanship score. As a long time 4-H judge, Myers understands
how simple movements can impact a horse's chance of winning.
Materials Needed: Arena, 5-6 showmen with horses in halters.
Two cordless mikes.
1 to 1.5 hours.
Ride In Sync IV
Participants will implement the Ride-in-Sync exercises
while practicing horsemanship pattern elements, focusing
on transitions, lead changes, circles, etc. This is the clinic
people want--lead changes are often a huge challenge for
riders who are new to showing in horsemanship. This clinic
will help observers clean up their pattern work and put the
finishing touches on their riding.
Materials Needed: Arena, 5-6 experienced and advanced riders
of any discipline. These riders may be the same as those
in Ride In Sync II. Two cordless mikes. 4 orange cones.
1 to 1.5 hours.
Conformation Demonstration
Myers will present his conformation judging techniques that
were featured in 2003's Horse & Rider. With clear
explanation and visual tricks, Myers will teach participants
how to choose a balanced and sound horse.
Materials Needed: Demonstration ring, 3 easels, 1 horse
in hand, cordless mikes.
